MMC’s Board of Trustees Elects Six New Members, New Chair

Marymount Manhattan College has welcomed six new trustees from a wide range of disciplines to its governing board, as well as a new chairperson, alumna Abby Fiorella ’83, J.D.

The new members include Rose Frances DiMartino, J.D., Joy Deanna Howell, M.D., Jaishri Kapoor, and Clevie Youngblood, RSHM, as well as two special-category trustees: Parent Trustee Karen Moore and Recent Alumni Trustee Mariely Moronta-Sanchez ’10. They join 21 existing board members who oversee the College’s mission, fiscal integrity, and educational quality.

Trustees are selected based on their interest in the College, areas of expertise, and commitment to participating on the board. “With varied backgrounds in medicine, law, the arts, theology, education, historic preservation, and community engagement, the new members bring diverse perspectives and years of governance experience to an already impressive group,” said MMC President Kerry Walk.

“Our new trustees are leaders in their respective fields and bring a wealth of wisdom and experience to the board,” Walk said. “Marymount Manhattan is excited to welcome them as we continue the work of strengthening the College and advancing its mission.”

Fiorella, who first joined the board in 2015, was elected chair at its annual meeting on May 3, 2022. “Abby has long demonstrated her passion for the MMC community, and with her at the board’s helm, we’re well-positioned for continued excellence and success,” Walk said.

As the board welcomed new faces, it also bid farewell to two longtime members who have completed the full number of terms a trustee may serve: Linda Basilice-Hoerrner ’71, a licensed associate broker and certified negotiation expert with Stribling & Associates, and Judith L. Robinson ’90, a retired insurance industry executive. “We are deeply grateful to Linda and Judy for their dedication to the College and many years of service,” Walk said.
