And the Winner of the 2022 Marymount Poetry Prize is...

Thanks to everyone who submitted to the 2022 Marymount Poetry Prize contest! The jury has reviewed over 100 high school students’ poems. After great deliberation, they have decided to award the prize to “moving/dream” by Ziyi Yan. Congratulations!

Ziyi Yan’s poem manages to be at once mysterious and colloquial, surprising and universal. It juts out in associative directions and, like a boomerang, finds its way back to the root of the issue: the pain of trying to make a connection. You can find the full text of the winning poem at this link—enjoy!

We’d like to thank all participants for sharing their work with us—please don’t stop writing! And please consider submitting your work again next year! We would also like to invite all participants to attend our annual creative writing event: the launch of the Carson Review. The event will take place at Marymount Manhattan College on March 6th 2023, at 7:00PM in the Regina Peruggi Room. Come meet our creative writing faculty and students, and hear some great student writing!
