Gen Z has entered the chat! A new crop of young alums is taking an active role in MMC’s alumni program and helping to support the work of the College, thanks to a creative initiative that recruits and engages recent graduates.
That effort, an alumni group known as the Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) Committee, welcomes back new alums and identifies opportunities for them to help plan and promote alumni engagement events, speak with and mentor current students, and more.
The committee includes up to 15 members selected through an application process who serve a two-year term.
“The GOLD Committee is important because it allows our young alumni to stay connected to MMC as they continue to grow personally and professionally and serve as ambassadors of the College,” said MMC Director of Alumni and Family Engagement Neil A. Gouveia
Committee member Webb Bankemper ’21, a marketing coordinator at Studio Tenn Theatre Company in Nashville, sees the committee as an opportunity for him to continue the high levels of involvement he had as an undergrad who participated in several student organizations. He’s especially eager to help plan events outside of New York City for alums like him who’ve moved to other parts of the country after graduation.
“I really loved my time at MMC,” he said. “And because I work a lot with my theatre company’s development office, I understand those needs and am very willing to support and to give back.”
For committee member Cherish Myers ’22, a performer who also works with the midtown audition and rehearsal space Pearl Studios NYC and the Chelsea dance fitness studio The Limit, the initiative offers a chance to link arms with fellow Griffins in ways that weren’t always possible during the pandemic years.
“I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for alumni to get together and connect with each other and also with current students,” she said.
