The Judy Earns Design Excellence Award from Boston Architecture Group
It’s official: the Judy is a beauty.
At an awards ceremony on March 7, the Judith Mara Carson Center for Visual Arts was recognized for Built Design Excellence: Interior Architecture. The award, bestowed by the Boston Society for Architecture, was accepted by DSK, the architecture firm that designed the Judy.
The BSA Design Awards program celebrates exemplary projects of innovation in the built environment, investment from committed clients, and the unique power of architecture to transform communities. The Judy was honored in particular for its impact on the MMC and NYC communities.
“The creative economy is a significant financial engine in cities and communities around the world, yet students seeking degrees and careers in the arts are historically under-resourced. To attract the most promising and diverse student body, the project includes an endowed scholarship fund, which provides scholarships for visual art students,” reads the award impact statement. “Additionally, the College, general contractor, and project team partnered with the Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) Project, a groundbreaking employment model that prepares, trains, and places women in careers in the skilled construction, utility, and maintenance trades.”
In a post on DSK’s LinkedIn feed, the firm expressed its gratitude to MMC:
“DSK is honored to receive a BSA 2023 Design Award for the design of the Judith Mara Carson Center for Visual Art at Marymount Manhattan College. We would like to thank our amazing client, partners, and design team.”
The Judy opened in September 2022 and was made possible by a historic $25 million gift from The Carson Family Charitable Trust.
