“I was in the class of 2015 and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a double major in Accounting and Finance, and a minor in Economics. The business program at Marymount is a hidden jewel with professors who are both excellent professionals and dedicated mentors. I was encouraged to constantly challenge myself and explore career paths. My advisors and professors helped me obtain scholarships and internships and were great counselors when it came to selecting a job that I loved. I received six job offers as I was getting ready to graduate and my professors helped guide me through the decision making process.Upon graduation, I decided to take a position as a Global Commercial Risk Analyst with Citigroup.”
The fact that the business professors were so knowledgeable and that they wanted their students to learn and progress was the most valuable attribute about the business program. My professors encouraged me to get jobs and internships which led to my taking on a part-time job at Goldman Sachs as a sophomore and an internship at JPMorgan Chase as a rising senior. I also participated in VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program) for three years where I prepared income taxes for low income NYC residents.
I would advise students in the business program to communicate with their professors and work hard. Your grade will reflect your work ethic, so make sure to reach out to your professors and get advice if you face any problems. Success will not sit on your doorstep and wait for you to answer the door, you need to find it! You need to apply yourself and take risks. Work for a company you may never have thought of; you never know who you will meet or what you will learn. Send out emails and resumes to people you know; you never know where this will take you, unless you try. I would be happy to share my experiences, so do reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org any time.
