Spotlight Story

After graduation in 2013 with a degree in Communication Arts, Joanna Press used her versatile degree to move from the business track to education. She realized she wanted to work with children in an academic setting and began a graduate program in Elementary and Special Education at Manhattanville College to become a certified teacher for grades 1–6. Currently, she’s a teacher’s assistant at Todd Elementary school.

As a transfer student at MMC, Joanna knew she wanted to go to school in the city, but didn’t want a large school. “I thrived on that personalized experience,” Joanna states. She recalls Nava Silton, Peter Schaefer, Corey Liberman, and Jenny Dixon as some of her most memorable and influential professors at MMC.

In her spare time, Joanna enjoys spin class, baking, rooting for her favorite team, the Yankees, and obsessing over her rescue mutt, Riley Mae. She also enjoys running, and completed an informal half marathon lastsummer. While Joanna now resides in Westchester County, Marymount and New York City will always hold a special place in her heart: “It takes resources to give a personalized education in the greatest city in the world. MMC is where I met one of my best friends while getting a quality education.”
