Colin Gibson ’16

Class of 2016, Major in Political Science, Journalism minor

  • Colin Gibson '16

“My education in Political Science has helped me attain a deeper understanding of the politics of education, especially in the various ways our nation’s policies have disadvantaged so many students of color.” Gibson is currently serving as the Special Assistant to the Chief Schools Officer of K-8 for Uncommon Schools.

About

After graduating from MMC in 2016, Gibson began work as a Crime Center Communications Analyst for Citizen App, inputting real-time crime information across New York City. In August 2017, he joined Uncommon Schools, a network of 45 public charter schools across New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, as Regional Schools Coordinator. In July 2019, Gibson was promoted to Special Assistant to the Chief Schools Officer, K-8. In his current role, Gibson directly supports the strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations of the office of the Chief Schools Officer.

“My political science education has informed much of my work supporting socio-economically disadvantaged students of color. I think there’s a lot that is either misunderstood about charter schools or unfairly stereotyped. My education in Political Science has helped me attain a deeper understanding of the politics of education, especially in the various ways our nation’s policies have disadvantaged so many students of color.”
