About
Jason Marr is an actor, director, producer and educator. He is a proud member of both Actors Equity Association (AEA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). Acting credits include Off-Broadway: Freudian Slips, Loose Knit, Eula Mae’s Beauty, Bait & Tackle; Regional Theatre: New York State Theatre Institute, New Rep, Foothills Theatre, Hippodrome State Theatre, Brown County Playhouse and Premiere Stages; and Television: Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and As the World Turns.
Jason is the Producing Artistic Director of Hip to Hip Theatre Company, a Queens-based non-profit dedicated to providing free professional theatre in underserved communities. Hip to Hip’s flagship program of Free Shakespeare in the Parks—which just celebrated its sixteenth season—entails touring a repertory of plays to a dozen public parks throughout the outer boroughs of NYC. For his work with Hip to Hip, Jason has been recognized by the New York City Council with a Citation for exemplary service to the community, and he received the Queens Impact Award for his commitment to enriching the cultural life of Queens.
Prior to his tenure at Hip to Hip, Jason was a founding company member of the Ohio Shakespeare Festival, where for five years he played leading roles, mentored the young company and assisted the Artistic Directors. Jason has been actively involved in actor training for the past twenty-five years: teaching acting courses at Indiana University, Columbus State University and Marymount Manhattan College; serving as a teaching artist for NYC’s Cultural After-School Adventures program (CASA); and developing and overseeing a rigorous acting apprenticeship program with Hip to Hip.
Jason received his MFA in Acting from Indiana University and his BS in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Mount Union.
