Meet the Cultural Peer Mentors

Cultural Peer Mentors (CPMs) are student leaders who help new international students become acclimated to Marymount Manhattan College and to the larger New York City community. They are role models, advisors, and friends, but most of all, they are students themselves who care about helping their classmates from abroad integrate seamlessly into college life.

Meet the Cultural Peer Mentors:

  • Major/Minor:  Psychology Major with a triple minor in Forensic Psychology, Social Work and Law & Ethics

Hey students! My name is Giselle Caraballo (she/her/hers) or Gigi for short and I’m a second-year Psychology Major with a triple minor in Forensic Psychology, Social Work and Law & Ethics, here at Marymount Manhattan College. I’m from a colorful and vibrant island, my beautiful Puerto Rico. Currently, I’m part of the CPM’s on campus, that are always here to help through your transition. This is my first year as a CPM and I’m more than thrilled to meet all of you! Get excited for all the programs we have in agenda for you, there’s nothing like the International Student Community! Tip: ENJOY YOUR FIRST SEMESTER, explore the city and learn how to manage your money wisely. If you ever need help, you can always find me at the library or at Cooper, don’t hesitate to ask!

  • Major/Minor:  BFA Acting with a Drama Therapy minor

Hola! My name is Kiara Mendez and I’m from Puerto Rico.  I am currently a junior in the BFA Acting major with a Drama Therapy minor and a student leader on campus.

Aside from being a Cultural Peer Mentor (CPM) I am also a student worker in the Office of Admissions and the Senator for International Students for the Student Government Association (SGA). My favorite spot in the city is Union Square and my hobbies are: rehearsing, finding new spots in the city and going dancing at SOHO. I am super excited to meet and welcome you all to MMC and New York City!

  • Major/Minor:  Theatre Performance major with a minor in Musical Theatre

Alondra Olmo Barlucea (she/her/hers) is a sophomore here at Marymount Manhattan College. Home for her is Cayey, Puerto Rico. She is a theatre performance major with minor on musical theatre, participant of MMC’s Honor’s Day 2019, and an active member of MMC’s international students. Alondra is going into her first year as a Cultural Peer Mentor and is excited to host programs bringing together the International student community. She can’t wait to meet the upcoming international class of 2023!

  • Major/Minor:  Theatre Arts with a Double Concentration in Performance and Theatre History and Performance Texts with a Minor in Musical Theatre
