Leadership Opportunities through Endowed Scholarships

Student Development and Activities facilitates the distribution of leadership based scholarships at Marymount Manhattan College. Below you will find information pertaining to the different scholarships, eligibility requirements, and how and when to apply.

 

The Gladys Brooks Foundation Scholarship

If you are an incoming new student at MMC, you may be eligible to apply for the Gladys Brooks Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship is available only to incoming students with a proven track record of academic excellence and progressive extra-curricular leadership development. Each Gladys Brooks Foundation scholarship is approximately $750, but amounts may vary based on available funds.

Eligibility requirements:
  1. Must be enrolled as a full-time student for your first semester at MMC; must maintain full-time status (12+ credits both fall and spring)
  2. Must hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 from your previous institution (first-year students: high school; transfer students: most recent institution of higher education)
  3. Must show evidence of progressive leadership experience through academic, extra-curricular, athletic, or community-based involvement.
  4. Must participate in the Emerging Leaders program during the spring semester.

The application for the Gladys Brooks Foundation scholarship can be found here. Applications will be accepted beginning January 1st and must be submitted no later than July 1st for consideration for the following academic year.

The following items will be required to complete your application:

  • A resume/CV of your extra-curricular high school leadership experiences
  • An essay (500 words max) on how your leadership experiences in high school have developed over time and how you have taken on increased responsibility as a leader

The Theresa Lang Endowed Scholarship

The Theresa Lang Endowed Scholarship is awarded to returning MMC students who display a pattern of outstanding community service and/or co-curricular activities. Each of the Theresa Lang Endowed Scholarships is approximately $2,000 for a full academic year (about $1,000 per semester), but amounts may vary based on available funds.

Eligibility requirements:
  1. Must be enrolled as a full-time matriculated student at Marymount Manhattan College
  2. Must hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  3. Must show evidence of progressive leadership experience through academic, extra-curricular, athletic, or community-based involvement.

The application for the Theresa Lang Endowed Scholarship can be found here. Applications will be accepted beginning January 1st and must be submitted no later than July 1st for consideration for the following academic year.

The Theresa Lang Endowed Scholarship can be awarded for up to three years (sophomore, junior, senior) by reapplying for the scholarship for the following academic year.
