What are Leadership Scholars?
The Leadership Scholars program is designed to elevate each individual’s understanding of their own leadership capabilities and take those to the next level. Over the course of twelve weeks, participants will attend weekly workshops that enhance their own awareness of who they are as a leader and their impact on those around them.
Why do it?
Scholars will leave the program as more well-rounded student leaders with a cohort of supportive peers and mentors who are committed to leadership education through personal exploration. Additionally, all selected Scholars will be awarded a non-renewable Theresa Lang Endowed Scholarship for approximately $1,000 (amount may vary based on available funds) for the Spring semester.
What is the time commitment?
The program is structured with two separate, yet interconnected, components: weekly leadership workshops and additional enrichment opportunities to foster your continued self-reflection, development, and growth.
1) Weekly Leadership Workshops
The workshops last approximately one hour each week, beginning the first week of the semester and ending the final week of April. Attendance at all workshops is required.
The workshops will be from 1:00 - 2:00 pm EST on Wednesdays. Scheduled topics include:
Introduction to the Program |
Identities and Intersectionality as a Part of Leadership |
Listening and Understanding Others Through Empathy |
Transformative Growth and the Ability to Take Risks |
Giving and Receiving Difficult Feedback |
Wrap-up and Debrief |
*schedule of topics is subject to change
2) Enrichment Opportunities
Leadership Scholars will be provided a schedule of enrichment opportunities to attend outside of the weekly meetings. These EO events are identified as programs/ events that will enhance your participation in the Leadership Scholars Workshops and will support your broadening knowledge and personal growth. Participants will be required to attend at least four of these EOs by the end of the Leadership Scholars program.
