Taconic College Program

The Taconic College Program is the first uninterrupted pathway in New York State to degree completion for women transferred from maximum- to medium-security facilities.

In February 2019, in partnership with nonprofit Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison, MMC opened a new teaching location at the medium-security Taconic Correctional Facility for women in Bedford Hills, New York.

The Taconic College Program complements MMC’s longstanding college program offered in the adjacent maximum-security Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for women, which has awarded more than 235 degrees since its inception in 1997. The collaboration of MMC, Hudson Link, and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) is the first in New York State to provide an opportunity for incarcerated women to have an uninterrupted pathway to degree completion when transferred from a maximum-security facility to a medium-security facility.

Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison provides college education, life skills, and reentry support to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated men and women to help them make a positive impact on their own lives, their families and communities, resulting in lower rates of recidivism, incarceration, and poverty. Hudson Link is a third party facilitator that partners with MMC on coordinating college-level courses for the TCP and on providing reentry services for the women of Bedford Hills and Taconic.
