Family and Friends Homecoming Weekend

Every year in October, MMC celebrates Family and Friends Homecoming Weekend.  We hope you will join us Friday, October 18 through Sunday, October 20, 2019 for this year’s festivities!

Highlights include a fall carnival and the annual flag football game on Roosevelt Island, our first-ever Chili Cook-Off, the Homecoming Party, and more!

The entire campus community is invited to join in as we celebrate 50 years of providing access, opportunity, and support to selected students through the NYS Higher Education Opportunity Program.

Dialogues in Dance

This annual lecture series addresses dance at the intersection of race, ethnicity, and nationality.  Entitled Deconstructing Fosse, the lecture will feature Dr. Julia Foulkes, Professor of History at the New School and author of A Place for Us: West Side Story and New York.

Does your family make the best chili around? Enter it in our first-ever Chili Cook-off and let MMC be the judge! Just want to sample yummy chili and cornbread? All members of the community are encouraged to come taste the entries and vote for their favorite.

Upper East Side Walking Tour
Meet at MMC’s 71st Street Entrance

MMC’s very own archivist, Mary Brown, leads you on a 45-minute tour to learn how MMC takes advantage of its New York City location. You will see everything from brownstones and mansions to shops and transportation routes, as well as architectural gems and sites of historic interest.

Fall Carnival and Flag Football Game
Sponsored by Campus Activities Board (CAB)
Pony Field, Roosevelt Island

A fun-filled afternoon of entertainment and ‘carnie’ fun. Bring friends, family, and little ones to enjoy a host of fun games, music, food, and activities for all ages. Featuring an inflatable joust and obstacle course, carnival games and prizes, tug-of-war, and giant checkers.

The bus to Pony Field will depart at 10:30 am from the 72nd Street Entrance. The bus will provide transportation to Pony Field and will board for the return journey at 1:30 pm. Seating is limited and will function on a first-come, first-served basis.

Experience Central Park 
A Walking Tour with Professor Julie
Huntington
Meeting Location: Central Park entrance at 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue

Join Julie Huntington, Ph.D., Associate Professor of English and World Literatures and Faculty Director of the NYC Seminar Program, in a tour of Central Park. The tour will begin near the 72nd Street and 5th Avenue entrance of the park and head west to where the Seneca Village once stood. Dr. Huntington has developed activities in the park based on readings and excursions from her NYC Seminar course.

Join Jason Rosenfeld, Professor of Art History, on a tour of some of the neighborhood’s most renowned art galleries.

Produced by the Musical Theatre Association (MTA)

American Idiot is a rock musical that follows a young anti-hero, Johnny, and his two buddies, Will and Tunny, as they attempt to break out of their mind-numbing, aimless suburban existence. Includes a cast talk-back after performance from 5:30–6:00 pm.

Tickets are currently SOLD OUT for this event. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door prior to scheduled show time for $15 each (cash only). All MMC students, faculty, and staff tickets are free with a valid MMC ID. Box office will open 1 hour prior to each scheduled showtime for waitlist sign-ups. Available waitlist tickets will be handed out 10 minutes prior to scheduled showtime.

This Dean’s List Ceremony recognizes students in the Fine and Performing Arts who achieved a superior level of academic success in the 2018–19 academic year and therefore earned Dean’s List honors. Students in Business, Communication and Media Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Sciences are recognized at a separate ceremony (see below).
