Why Study Literature at MMC?
Reading can transport you across time and space in a personal and intimate journey. Our diverse curriculum includes texts from many continents and historical eras to help students understand the world they live in—and create the world they want to see. Our student-friendly, tight-knit program offers small classes, one-on-one independent studies, and exciting study abroad opportunities. But you don’t have to get on a plane to discover new worlds: from poetry slams at the Nuyorican Café, to medieval courtyards at the Cloisters Museum, to the Afrofuturist Room at the MET, we will take you on exciting journeys right here in New York City!
Our program strives to prepare students for life after College. You will have the opportunity to gain professional editorial experience by working on our literary magazine (The Carson Review), our online cultural magazine (twotwoone.nyc), or our newspaper (The Monitor). You can enjoy professional mentorship and hands-on practice as one of our Teaching Apprentices or Research Apprentices. You can even pursue our joint BA/MS in publishing program with Pace University to get an early start on your career. Most importantly, you will gain critical thinking, writing, communication, and analytical skills highly valued by employers in any professional field!
The Carson Review
The mark of a thriving undergraduate creative writing program is in the eminence of its student literary magazine: The Carson Review is Marymount Manhattan College’s creative writing journal, published once a year in the spring.
