Psychology

You want to understand mental health on more than an intellectual level: How can we increase access to adequate care? What can we do to raise awareness about mental health issues? What are ways we can advocate for those most in need? Discover how psychology can lead to a more just and humane world.

Why Study Psychology at MMC

Theory and practice go hand-in-hand in our psychology program. Our faculty treat you as budding scholars and help you conduct research, present at conferences, and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Complement the traditional foundations of psychology with emerging areas of study like forensics, art and drama therapy, creative media, and health. People-watching may be a sport in New York, but you’ll be able to do more than that with internships in places like Sesame Street Workshop, the District Attorney’s office, the Child Mind Institute, and the New York State Psychiatric Institute.

Graduate with the skills and the experience for a wide variety of careers or to pursue advanced and professional degrees in psychology, counseling, social work, human resources, and market research.

IN CLASS

Our curriculum combines traditional studies with emerging areas of the discipline, studying developmental psychology and neuroscience, personality and health psychology. At MMC, you can also supplement your degree program with one of our various minor programs, including Art or Drama Therapy, Child Development and Creative Media, Forensic Psychology, Neuroscience, or Public Health.

IN PRACTICE

Our professors help students conduct research, present at state and national conferences, publish articles in peer-reviewed journals, and find internships throughout New York that put their skills to use. Students have interned everywhere from Sesame Street and the District Attorney’s office, to Planned Parenthood and the New York State Psychiatric Institute.

We host an annual research conference and sponsor a chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. Our most active students also join the Psychology Club, organizing field trips, fundraisers, and lectures by esteemed scholars.
